Detroit Villages September Potluck!

On the first cool morning in quite some time I'm reminded of the impending return to normal time here in Detroit. Summer trips have ended, some hold-outs are still galavanting, but on the whole people are returning to their lives. We know some have begun new lives, new communities, have joined new neighborhoods in the city and beyond.

I'm always excited about this time of year.

Session 4: In Kind Resources

Online Mission Intern Course 2010

GOAL

This session aims to help you reflect on the power of "In-Kind" resources for your ministry.

ENGAGE

Read Acts 2:43-47

  • What items do you own that could be used for ministry?
  • Does Jesus or the church have any claim to those things you own?
  • When have you seen people giving things to churches/ministries that really made a difference?

ASSIGNMENT

Consp!re Conference Call Tonight

Hello Detroit Villagers!

While on short notice, we wanted to open up the following opportunity for any one of you interested in taking part in a conference call for communities who receive the quarterly Consp!re magazines. This is a conversation that happens regularly to help keep that publication meeting the needs of the various intentional communities who share in it.

Please email Carl at carl@emergedetroit.org if you'd like to represent us tonight! And thanks!

What: CONSP!RE PHONE CALL

Date: Thursday, July 08, 2010

Start Time: 8:30 PM ET

End Time: 9:25 PM ET

Session 3: unChristian

Online Mission Intern Course 2010

Read excerpts from the book "unChristian" (downloadable documents are on this site)
www.unchristian.com

Listen to this podcast discussion:
Gabe Lyons and Chuck Colson

Discuss these questions on your blog:

1.Chapter One
- Do you know any “outsiders”? Would you consider them to be friends? What do you think their perceptions are of Christianity?
- Young people don’t like to join things that seem easy, mainstream, or normal. What does that mean for Christianity today? How can we help people grasp that Christianity was never meant to be safe?
- When a young Christian interacts with the world, they are much more likely to live within a truly pluralistic generation … that is, many of their friends are not likely to be Christian. What should change, if anything, in the way we prepare young Christians to live in a pluralistic, diverse world?

Session 2: In Person Resources

Online Mission Intern Course 2010

GOAL

This week we'd like each of you (as missional entrepreneurs this Summer) to practice pulling together "In-Person" resources for your ministry site.

ENGAGE

Read 1 Corinthians 12

  • What gifts have you been given?
  • What part of the body's work has fallen to you this Summer?
  • Are you happy being a foot or nose? Would you rather be a brain or elbow?

Session 1: Engaging others in the mission

Online Mission Intern Course 2010

GOAL

For our first session we want you to think about how to promote the mission of the mission intern program and of your site. In order to do that we are having you visit other non-profit and religious web sites. You may need to dig to find the mission – or you may infer it from what they choose to promote on their web site. After completing that … you will examine the mission statements from the Mission Intern program and your site. Then …. You are ready to prepare your own speech that you can use to engage others in this wonderful mission.

What is Covenant?

emerge detroit guide header logo

From time to time we send along pieces that we're using throughout the emergedetroit network for scriptural discernment, study, and as starting points for our conversations. Below is one on the notion of "Covenant" that our Detroit Villages will be using as they seek to build up covenants together and within their various communities.

We hope it might be helpful for you too.

Peace,
Carl
